Four seek title of Veterans Queen

Juniata County coronation to take place on Nov. 10

MIFFLINTOWN - The Juniata County Veterans Council has announced that four young women are competing for the title of 2023 Juniata County Veterans Queen.

The candidates, all students at Juniata High School, are:

Emma Arentz, 17, daughter of Brian and Eliza Arentz. Her future plans include attending college to pursue a degree as a special needs teacher. Her sponsor is John Lebkicker. Her escort is Heath Hutchinson.

Elizabeth Gaisior, 16, daughter of Mike Gaisior and Kristen Jones-Gaisior. Her plans include attending college at Fordham University, majoring in psychology and becoming a forensic psychologist. Her sponsor is Luke Landis. Her escort is Michael Gaisior.

Lexie Gilson, 17, daughter of William and Bonita Gilson. Her future plans include attending college at Penn State, pursuing a degree in music education and becoming a music teacher. Her sponsor is William Conn. Her escort is Slone Smith.

Jessica Otero, 17, daughter of Brian and Sandra Treaster. Her plans include attending college, pursuing a degree in nursing and becoming a registered nurse. Her sponsor is Ray Boose Jr. Her escort is Ray Boose.

Each candidate will sell raffle tickets as part of the competition, and area residents are encouraged to support their efforts.

The queen and her court will be announced at the annual Veterans Council Queens Ball on Friday, Nov. 10, at the Port Royal Community Center, Port Royal, with a catered meal. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the program starts at 6 p.m.

The winner of the contest receives a $3,000 scholarship, the first runner-up receives a $2,000 scholarship and the second runner-up receives a $1,000 scholarship.

The annual Veterans Day parade will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, in Mifflintown.
