MIFFLINTOWN -- The Juniata County Commissioners issued a proclamation declaring Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week in Honor of community corrections professionals at Tuesday’s weekly meeting.
Commissioners Alice Gray, Mark Partner, and Todd Graybill acknowledged the vital role community corrections professionals play in the justice system.
These individuals, lauded for upholding the law with dignity, ensure the public’s safety from criminal activities. The proclamation also highlights their responsibilities in managing adult and juvenile offenders within the community.
The proclamation praises these professionals for their partnership with community agencies and groups, as well as their contributions in service provision, offender referrals, crime prevention, intervention, and advocacy.
Beyond their duty of maintaining law and order, community corrections professionals also support victims of crimes and promote community and restorative justice.
By doing their part in creating a safe, harmonious society, these professionals have been a “Force for Positive Change” within their communities.
The Commissioners encourage all citizens to recognize and appreciate the critical work these professionals do, celebrating their unwavering commitment to the safety and betterment of the community.
In other news, the Commissioners:
• Approved a Medical Assistance Transportation Program Participation Grant Agreement, and Assurance of Compliance. The agreement begins July 1 and terminates June 30, 2024;
• Ratified a Letter of Support for the Juniata County Historical Society, supporting a grant application to fund the digitizing of archived documents;
• Approved the Child Welfare Information Solution Data Sharing Agreement between Juniata County Government on behalf of Juniata County Children and Youth Services and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the period of Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2024, as recommended by Ashley J. Baxter Children & Youth Director;
• Approved the following Purchase of Service Agreements between Juniata County Children and Youth Services, the Juniata County Probation Department, and the entities listed. Unless otherwise noted, the agreements shall be in force and effect from July 1 through June 30, 2024: Adelphoi Village, Inc., City Missions-Living Stone, Inc., Pathways Adolescent Center;
• Approved payment of the following Juniata County Hazardous Materials check: #1431 $172.12 Wex Bank Fuel;
• Approved the tax exonerations for Susquehanna Township as per the material provided;
• Approved the resignation of Kalen B. Colwell as a caseworker at Juniata County Children and Youth Social Services Agency, effective as of the end of business on Aug. 11;
• Approved payment of checks #68717 – #68780 in the amount of $211,700.44;
• Reviewed the following June 2023 departmental reports: “Children and Youth Statistical Report,” as submitted by Ashley J. Baxter, Children & Youth Director, “Summary of Collections Report-Fines and Costs,” as submitted by Jacqueline T. Leister, Magisterial District Judge.
