YEAGERTOWN - The Call A Ride Service Inc., or CARS, program announced Tuesday that it will be implementing a fare increase in Mifflin and Juniata counties, effective July 1.

"The last official CARS fare increase was put into place in May of 2013," said Roxanne Garrett, communications coordinator for Mifflin-Juniata Regional Services Corp.-The Care Network. "If patrons have any questions or concerns, please notify the CARS office. The patronage of the community is very much appreciated."

Approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the new fares are:

• 0 to 1.99 miles - $14.00 full fare and $2.10 discounted rate

• 2 to 4.99 miles - $18.00 full fare and $2.75 discounted rate

• 5 to 9.99 miles - $24.00 full fare and $3.50 discounted rate

• 10 to 14.99 miles - $32.00 full fare and $4.75 discounted rate

• 15 to 24.99 miles - $37.00 full fare and $5.50 discounted rate

• 25 to 49.99 miles - $50.00 full fare and $7.50 discounted rate

• 50-plus miles - $100.00 full fare and $15.00 discounted rate

CARS is a shared-ride transportation program serving residents in Mifflin and Juniata counties. Sharing the ride means that residents might sometimes have to leave home a little earlier or wait a little longer for return trips for scheduling purposes.

Any resident living Mifflin or Juniata Counties is eligible to use the service after registering with the office. Registration forms are available at MJRSC--The Care Network, located at 25 Rothermel Drive, Yeagertown; online at mymjrsc.com; or by calling (717) 242-2277.
