Mifflintown man arrested for strangulation

MIFFLINTOWN -- Lewistown Police responded to a domestic dispute at a residence on William Penn Hwy. Police arrested Terry Coxx, 34, after they said he strangled and assaulted an individual at the residence on May 10. Coxx has been charged with strangulation and simple assault.

Lewistown man charged with DUI

LEWISTOWN -- Pennsylvania State Police reported that 36-year-old Daniel Foxx arrived at the Pennsylvania State Police barracks in Lewistown on April 21 to submit a police report. Officers stated that during that time, they observed Foxx to be under the influence of a controlled substance. The report says Foxx consented to a drug recognition expert evaluation and a blood test, where it was determined he was under the influence of a controlled substance. Foxx was charged with a DUI and later released. Police have continued to investigate.

Community summer band

rehearsals offered

MOUNT UNION -- A Community Summer Band will begin rehearsals for its 32nd season from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 5 in the social hall of the First Baptist Church, 6th and Mifflin streets, Huntingdon. The group will hold eight rehearsals in preparation for old-fashioned outdoor band concerts scheduled for Tuesday, July 25 at Sharrar House, Mt. Union, Thursday, July 27 at Huntingdon's Blair Park and Friday, July 28 on the lawn of the Memorial Library in Alexandria.

The band plays a variety of music including marches, jazz, medley's, and show tunes and is conducted by John Kuehl, with assistance from Rick Kane, Jordan Canner. Those considering participating should know that they need not be present at all rehearsals or available to play all concerts to become involved and that instruments are available for loan. Milroy man cited for DUI

LEWISTOWN -- At about 8 a.m. May 12, Mifflin County Regional Police observed 36-year-old Jeffrey Decker II, of Milroy, operating a 2012 Dodge Ram truck on Fifth Avenue.

According to the report, police knew Decker's driver's license was under suspension. Further investigation revealed several outstanding warrants for Decker.

Decker was taken into custody without incident. During a search incident to arrest, officers located methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on his person.

Decker was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Kent Smith on the outstanding warrants. Additional charges of possession of a controlled substance will be filed through Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Reed's office.

PennDOT announces start date for

Juniata County bridge project

MIFFLINTOWN -- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced a start date of Tuesday, May 30, for a bridge replacement project in Juniata County. The bridge spans Locust Run along Route 3002 (Old 22 Road/Main Street), approximately two miles west of Thompsontown in Walker Township.

While replacing the bridge, the contractor will close the road at the intersection of Old 22 Road/Main Street and Route 2007 (Locust Run Road). Traffic will be detoured onto Route 22 via either Route 75 at the Port Royal interchange or Route 333 at the East Salem/Thompsontown interchange.

The project also involves a full-depth reconstruction of the roadway at the intersection. Later this summer, a separate detour will be implemented for five days while the contractor completes the reconstruction. PennDOT will update drivers on the project with the new detour information before reconstruction work begins.
