LEWISTOWN -- Andrea Alcalde received the Republican nomination for coroner, according to Tuesday's unofficial election results.
Alcalde received 3,390 votes out of 6,119 total votes.
If elected in the general election in November, she will serve a four-year term.
She opposed Michael Elder, who served as the chief deputy coroner for three years. Elder also had more than a decade of experience in the medical field and 24 years experience in law enforcement, 13 of which he served as a criminal investigator with the state police.
Elder received 2,727 votes out of 6,119 total votes.
Alcalde is a lifelong resident of Mifflin County and a graduate of Lewistown Area High School and The Academy of Science and Technology. She attended South Hills School of Business and Technology with continued education in mortuary science and thanatology.
Alcalde is a nationally registered medicolegal death investigator through the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators with attendance at Saint Louis University School of Medicine and is a licensed nurse.
Alcalde has over a decade of experience in the medical field where she focused on palliative and end of life care before transitioning into the Mifflin County Coroner's office as a deputy coroner in 2021.
Trained and certified in the psychological, physiological, and sociological aspects surrounding death and bereavement, Alcalde has attended yearly conferences and training seminars to remain current with all aspects of the coroner's office and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Coroners' Education board to better serve the residents of Mifflin County and help families navigate through the loss of their loved one.
Alcalde is an active member of Silent No More, National Autism Society, and City Hook and Ladder where she sits on the board of directors.
Alcalde resides in Granville Township alongside her family, Diego, and their sons.
