MILROY -- Dave Shirk knows he only gets one chance to make a great first impression.
That's why he's a bit anxious and apprehensive about the inaugural Rods at the Rock show, hosted by the All-American Cruisers car club. It's slated to be held 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, on the grounds of the Blue Rock Sportsman's Club, 438 New Lancaster Valley Rd., Milroy.
"It's the first one," said Shirk, who is a member of the Cruisers and has attended car shows for years. "With anything new, you never know what's it going to be like."
The Rods at the Rock show is open to displaying cars, trucks and motorcycles.
"We just want to make sure we give out good door prizes and give out good food," he added. "People will remember, and word will get around, so hopefully it will get bigger and bigger."
Shirk, who has been going to shows "as a spectator for a long, long time," owns two classic cars. He has a 1931 Ford Sedan Delivery and a 1962 Chevrolet Corvair Convertible.
Shirk might display the Delivery, while his Corvair is still being restored.
As far as attendance is concerned, he believes any turnout above 50 cars would make the show a success. "A lot of people in the club are going to be there," he explained.
The All-American Cruisers club he belongs to has members in Mifflin, Juniata and Perry counties.
Goody bags and dash plaques will be awarded to the first 50 entries. Trophies will be given out to the top 25 vehicles as voted on by participants. There will be door prizes and a 50/50 drawing, along with DJ Austin Gish playing oldies tunes. Shirk said at least 3 to 4 food trucks will be there selling food.
Admission to the show is free.
Registration will be held from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. There is a $10 registration fee for owners to display their vehicles.
Proceeds benefit the Salvation Army Ministries in Mifflin, Juniata and Perry counties.
