BEAVER SPRINGS -- Back for its 21st anniversary, the Middlecreek Area Community Center's auctions have become an important fundraiser over the years.
This year's event is slated for Friday and Saturday, May 5-6, at the MACC, located at 67 Elm St., Beaver Springs, in conjunction with the Kids Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"A heartfelt thank you to all in our community who supported this fundraising event in so many ways," said Tracey Bobb, MACC auction committee chair. "It is such a fun night. The staff and committee have been working on the auctions and are very excited to feature our community donations.
"We are grateful for the hundreds of donors and sponsors, who have made these auctions possible," she added. "This event directly supports our goal of improving the quality and quantity of programs the MACC offers to the community."
Admission is free, especially at the Kids Fair, which features 25 vendors who will have tons of fun activities for children. There will also be inflatables, pony rides, petting zoo, hayrides, barrel rides, fire trucks and cotton candy. There's a bike raffle scheduled, along with free hot dogs and drinks.
"The MACC is very grateful for all of the sponsors and donors that have made the Kids Fair possible," said Lindsay Dressler, MACC program director. "Your support enables the MACC to meet its mission of 'Strengthening Our Community' by providing free entertainment and services to our local families."
The MACC has three auctions - Chinese, children's and live - which begin on Friday, May 5 and run through Saturday, May 6. The Chinese auction kicks things off on May 5 with more than 500 assorted items, including gift cards, children's toys, crafts, summer treasures and more.
A silent auction, also scheduled for May 5, will have more than 100 unique donations, including baskets, Amazon Fire kids' tablets, Margaritaville frozen drink maker, kids' baskets, appliances, outdoor décor and original artwork by local artist Jim Dippery.
Doors open for the Chinese and silent auctions from 5 to 9 p.m. May 6 and again during the Kids Fair on Saturday. You do not need to be present at either auction to win. Chinese auction winners will not be notified the week of May 8, while silent auction winners will be finalized during the live auction.
The live auction will start at 7 p.m. Saturday, with auctioneer Ken Hassinger, who encourages attendees to "bid high and bid often" to benefit the MACC. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with free appetizers and a preview of more than 80 auction items.
Live auction items include: floral arrangements, bird calls, Kate Spade purse, golfing package, Stihl trimmer and power washer, original artwork by local artists Jim Dippery and Bradley Shoemaker, American Music and Dutch Apple theater packages, Pittsburgh Pirates package, Tussey Mountain ski package, patio fireplace and lanterns, Jim Thorpe Whitewater Rafting package, Sight and Sound package, gardening items, deer hunting package, handmade quilt and picnic table.
Auction attendees who get a bidding number will also be entered into a special drawing for up to $2,100.
