Union-Snyder County announces
Law Day Celebration
MIDDLEBURG -- The Union-Snyder County Bar Association has announced that its annual Law Day ceremony will be held in the courtroom of the Union County Courthouse at 4 p.m. in Lewisburg on May 3.
Law Day is a national holiday celebrating the rule of law in the United States. According to the American Bar Association, "Law Day provides an opportunity to understand how law and the legal process protect our liberty, strive to achieve justice, and contribute to the freedoms that all Americans share."
President Judge Lori Hackenberg will preside over the ceremony at which the Bar Association will honor the winners of its Law Day art and essay contest. The Union-Snyder County Bar Association is a voluntary professional organization of attorneys who live or practice in Pennsylvania’s 17th Judicial District, which is composed of Union and Snyder counties.
Hunger Coalition to host 5K
LEWISBURG -- The Union-Snyder Hunger Coalition will host a 5K Race and All-Abilities Walk on Saturday, April 22, beginning at 8 a.m. at The Miller Center for Recreation and Wellness. Registration is $20 for the 5K and $10 for the walk.
Both the run and walk will begin and end at the Miller Center for Recreation & Wellness, 120 Hardwood Drive, Lewisburg.
Participants will assemble on the Miller Center's outdoor courtyard for this flat and fast course that includes the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail and parts of the Brookpark Farm neighborhood. Racers will be chip-timed by Bernie's Race Timing. Registration is now open at runsignup.com; search for Hunger Coalition 5K.
All proceeds benefit the Union-Snyder Hunger Coalition, a network working to address local food insecurity. Greenwood to host egg hunt
HUNTINGDON -- Greenwood Furnace State Park will host a spring egg hunt.
Each wooden egg has been decorated with a nest and birds. Learn about local birds and their nests during the hunt. No paper required.
The hunt starts at the Furnace and ends at the cemetery. A total of 14 eggs have been placed throughout the historic district and the area across from the park office toward the cemetery. The hunt will end June 1.
