Band rehearsal

LEWISTOWN -- The first rehearsal for the upcoming season of the Lewistown Community Band, under the direction of Peter Marsh, will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 17, in the fellowship hall of St. John's Lutheran Church, North Main Street in Lewistown. The band is presently comprised of about 35-40 post high school adults, and always welcomes new members. The summer season will include the Let Freedom Ring concert on July 1, and concerts in McClure, McAlisterville, Milroy, and Belleville. The summer season terminates about the middle of August.

The band reconvenes late October and prepares for two Christmas concerts in early December. For more information about the organization or becoming a member, contact Freda Richard (717) 242-2344.

Library book sale upcoming

BEAVERTOWN -- The Beavertown Library is now accepting donations of gently used books of nonfiction, fiction, hard cover, paperbacks, children's books and cookbooks for the 17th annual used book sale on May 19-20, 2023. The Library cannot accept donations of textbooks or reference materials such as encyclopedias. Donations may be dropped off during library hours or by calling Nancy Galliher for other options (570) 541-0012.

Society spring dinner meeting

MEXICO -- The Juniata County Historical Society annual meeting and spring dinner will be held Wednesday, April 26, at Walker Grange in Mexico. The featured speaker will be author Joyce Kieffer, of Mechanicsburg. She has penned three historical novels that center around Juniata County.

The meeting will include election of officers. The menu is roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, California blend cheese, cream slaw and angel food cake with topping. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. with a short business meeting before the presentation. Tickets are $20. To purchase tickets, visit the JCHS Archives Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., or call (717) 436-5152 to reserve. Payment can also be made by mail. Send your check to the Juniata County Historical Society, 498 Jefferson St., Suite B., Mifflintown, PA 17059, complete with a stamped return envelope if you wish your tickets to be mailed to you. Deadline to purchase tickets is April 18.
