County seeks input for study

LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County Commissioners discussed the need for public input on Mifflin Moves! during its regularly held meeting on Thursday.

Mifflin Moves is a partnership study, funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and supported by Mifflin County’s Planning and Development Department.

Efforts on the study began a little over a year ago. The project aims to improve walking and biking for everyday travel and recreation in the county. It is now in phase two of development.

The planned study is now complete in its draft form and the commissioners are now seeking public comment on the report. Commissioner Rob Postal stated, “we are actively seeking public input on this project for ways to improve walking and biking transportation for county residents.”

County residents can make suggestions on the project and voice their opinions on this project by calling or emailing the commissioners at (717) 248 – 6733 or Mifflin County Planning and Development Department at (717) 242 -0887.

For a map of walking and biking trails in Mifflin County and further updates on the Mifflin Moves study information is available through the Mifflin County Department of Planning and Development at: https://mifflinco.org/planning. Walking and biking trails could be a source of tourism for the county going forward as Mifflin County is witnessing a resurgent planning and development period with county human services departments recently moving into downtown Lewistown, and a new athletic complex envisioned for the school district.

State Rep. (PA-13) John Joyce is advocating for state and federal funding for the project in Washington D.C.

Also during the meeting on Thursday, Postal also announced following his attendance of a recent board meeting with the Juniata Development and Behavioral Services, that “there will be an open house at the Juniata Valley Development and Behavioral Services on May 3 at their new downtown Lewistown location at 152 East Market Street in suite 105.
