County proclaims ‘Public Safety Week’

LEWISTOWN -- The Mifflin County Commissioners praised the work of the county public safety communications department during their regular meeting on Thursday. The board proclaimed April 23-29 'Public Safety Telecommunicators Week' in the county.

Phil Lucas Mifflin County Public Safety Director and Brian Fleegal of the Mifflin County 911 Emergency Response Department attended the meeting on behalf of the county 911 department.

"Thank you for recognizing the staff and 911 Center for the job that they do, everyday, all day, 24/7," Lucas said. "It is an important contribution they make to the community; it is that lifeline between our community and first responders. It is a daunting task, we need help providing help for helping our community.

"We take great pride in serving our community," Fleegal said. "Thank you commissioners, again, for recognizing National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. We have a really good group of communicators here in the county. They do a great job day in and day out and they deserve the recognition and I just want to thank you again."

In other business, Mifflin County will receive $499,000 from the Keystone Project for improvements to the county library building.

"I want you to know how much I truly appreciate the grant," Mifflin County Library Executive Director Susan Miriello said. "The building is 82 years old. The commissioners have helped us and it is a great responsibility involving a lot of history. The little kids will appreciate you, too. Maybe not today, but tomorrow."
