LEWISTOWN -- Lori K Haines' name will be on the Republican primary ballot for Mifflin County School Director in May.
Haines states she would like to contribute, in a positive way, with our public education system.
"I don't believe that public education just starts and stops within Mifflin County. There are many issues and concerns that are universal and governed beyond the local level. I am willing to listen and learn from other school districts, advocacy groups, and educational organizations. During the time I spent getting petition signatures, I became more aware of the voiced concerns and questions from citizens, parents, and current teachers. These concerns will not go unnoticed or ignored. I will strive to work for the benefit of all students, families, and teachers if elected to a seat on the Mifflin County School Board," she said in a news release..
Haines said she believes public education gives students the skills and knowledge needed to live productive lives.
"Hopefully, these educational beginnings will foster a life-long desire committed to continual learning and self-improvement," she said.
Haines graduated from Lewistown Area Senior High School in the 1980s, and earned a college degree in 2017 from Elizabethtown College as a non-traditional student.
"I am very thankful that I was able to complete this Business Administration degree with the support of my family and my employer at the time, Lancaster City Housing Authority," she said.
Haines serves as the executive director for the Centre County Housing Authority.
"In a leadership role of this nature, I believe it positions me to understand the nuances of budgets, business strategy, and decision making for a non-profit organization like a Housing Authority or in service to my local public school district," she said.
Haines has volunteered in many aspects of my children's public education within the Penn Manor School District in Lancaster County.
"Whether it was attending parent teacher nights, choral concerts, talent shows, sporting events, volunteering at the track and field concession stand, treasurer for the cheerleading booster club, or planning a dance and decorating for senior prom, I did my best to support the school district by my active involvement," she said.
In the community, she serves as treasurer for the New Danville Fire Company, Bridge of Hope Centre County, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and mission trips.
Lori and her husband, Chuck, reside in Milroy, Armagh Township.
