BURNHAM -- The Mifflin County Dream Center will give individuals who are struggling with addiction a second chance.
Chad Curry, director, described the mission of the newly-established organization, which is under construction at the former Burnham Hardware store, 204 1st Ave., Burnham, to the Rotary Club of Mifflin County during its meeting on Tuesday.
The Center will offer Christ-centered community outreach such as Alcoholics Anonymous, food pantries and Yoke Fellowship.
Curry, a U.S. Army veteran, was inspired to work with the Center because of his personal experiences overcoming addiction at a Dream Center where he was stationed in North Carolina in 2020.
A goal of the Dream Center, he said, is to "assist individuals to realize their unique God-given values and empower them to carry out their God-given purpose in life."
The center also works to restore homes by way of financial stability and addressing unique barriers within the family unit and foster engagement and outreach among all community stakeholders.
The building is currently in construction stages, but a fundraiser to get it up and running will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at the Center.
