MIFFLINTOWN — The holiday season brings music, and several performances are scheduled for The Boyz and Big Band Sound, along with the annual performance of the Community Christmas Cantata.

The Boyz have three performances planned in early Deember, the first at the Lewistown Festival of Ice on Friday, Dec. 2. The singers will be standing on the Historic Mifflin County Courthouse’s front entrance steps while singing familiar Christmas carols and strolling throughout the Monument Square area from 6 to 7 p.m.

From 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. that day, the Big Band Sound will fill the Historic Courthouse’s second-floor courtroom with Christmas-themed music.

A week later, on Dec. 9, The Boyz will be strolling throughout The Clubhouse Grill and Restaurant in Mifflintown from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.while singing familiar Christmas carols.

On Saturday, Dec. 10, The Boyz will sing Christmas tunes at 6 p.m., prior to the 6:30 Mifflintown tree lighting ceremony that will take place close to the Juniata River walking bridge.

The Community Christmas Cantata takes place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18, at Port Royal Lutheran Church, 402 Market St. Directed by retired Juniata High School band and chorus director Kevin Cunningham, a community choir of more than 50 members will perform the cantata “Behold, a Savior! Songs and Stories of His birth.”

While the public performance will be free of an admission charge, a freewill offering will be collected to benefit the Juniata County Food Pantry. Following the 45-minute cantata, attending persons will be given the opportunity to enjoy ‘sing-along time’ with a number of familiar Christmas hymns.

Should weather conditions require a rescheduled performance, the Cantata will be performed the evening of Dec. 19 or Dec. 20.
