LEWISTOWN -- A 25-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after police said he broke into the A&R Mini Mart on South Main Street, then fled from police in a stolen vehicle.
Tyler Christopher Parson, of Lewistown, was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Reed Tuesday on charges of burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, fleeing from police, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest and related offenses.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, police responded to a commercial burglar alarm at A&R Mini Mart, 525 S. Main Street, Lewistown. Upon arrival police said the power to the store was off. Police noticed that a ceiling tile was broken and that there was insulation and broken tile lying on the floor as if someone entered the store through the roof.
According to the report, the cash register was not touched and a First National Bank bag containing cash on the counter appeared to be untouched.
Police were advised that electric meters to the store were removed, but it did not appear that anything else was missing.
Later that morning, at about 5:30 a.m., Lewistown Police Department responded to the report of a stolen vehicle on South Wayne Street. Police said when parking their car on South Brown Street, they observed the stolen vehicle at a stop sign.
Police said they followed the vehicle west on East Water Street, left onto South Main Street and right onto West Fleming Avenue. The vehicle then turned left onto Lehigh Alley where police activated their emergency lights.
At that point, police said the vehicle slowed and turned left into the Lake Chevrolet parking lot where it sped up and circled, then exited north onto Lehigh Alley. Police followed the vehicle until it struck another occupied vehicle on Washington Avenue. The vehicle continued, striking a shed on South Main Street, which caused it to stop.
At that point the affidavit states Parson then fled on foot south on Susquehanna Avenue, at which time, police followed him on foot. Police said a Taser was deployed, which had no effect. Police said Parson ran into a fence in the backyard of a South Main Street home and police were able to place him under arrest.
Police said Parson initially gave a false name to police.
Parson is being held in Mifflin County Correctional Facility, unable to post $250,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Sept. 21 in Reed's office.
