Two jailed after Valley Street shooting

Victim transported to Danville for treatment

A shooting took place at 632 Valley Street Wednesday, with three men involved in an altercation that led to two being arrested and charged.

LEWISTOWN — Two men were jailed and another hospitalized at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville as a result of a shooting incident Wednesday in the borough.

According to a report from the Lewistown Police Department the incident occurred at the Valley Street residence of the victim, 59-year-old Edward Swartz, around 6:42 p.m.

Police said the victim was confronted at his residence by his landlord, Michael Bruno, who was attempting to remove the Swartz from the residence. According to the police report, Bruno pointed a shotgun at the victim. The victim then grabbed the barrel of the shotgun and struggled with Bruno, causing the shotgun to discharge, the report states

Police say another man, Christopher Carter, also was also at the scene. After the shotgun discharged, police said, Carter fired one round from a handgun at the victim, striking him in the lower abdomen. Carter then called to report the shooting.

The victim was transported to Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital and later was transferred to Geisinger Medical Center.

Both Bruno and Carter were taken into custody at the scene. Bruno was charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person. Carter was charged with criminal attempt-homicide, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person. Both were lodged in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility pending arraignment.

The police report states that this was an isolated incident and there is no further threat to the public.
