LEWISTOWN -- A Lewistown man was jailed after police said he threatened to kill a woman by putting a gun in her mouth early Friday morning.
Mifflin County Regional Police Department said they were contacted around 3:12 a.m. Friday by the woman, who said she and 26-year-old Trevor Alan Middaugh had been involved in a dispute that had gotten physical at a residence along U.S. 522 North in Derry Township.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by police, the woman told police that the dispute first began in McVeytown before Middaugh drove the woman to the Derry Township residence. The woman told police that Middaugh had been driving erratically because he would drive at a high rate of speed before engaging the emergency brake several times in what the woman told police she believed was an effort to eject her from the vehicle.
According to the affidavit, the woman told police that once she and Middaugh arrived at the residence, the argument continued as Middaugh threw and broke several items in the home before showing her a 9mm handgun, a shotgun and several shotgun rounds that Middaugh stated were intended for specific victims.
The woman also told police that Middaugh had put the handgun in her mouth and threatened to shoot her.
Police said when they spoke to Middaugh, he stated the two had been arguing over some text messages the woman had sent and that he had asked her to leave the residence, but that no physical contact was made between the two. A witness also did not report seeing any physical contact between the two, according to police.
According to the affidavit, police arrested Middaugh, obtained a search warrant and then located a 9 mm handgun with a 24-round magazine, including one round in the chamber of the gun, that had been concealed in a cardboard box and covered with a cloth beneath the stairs, the location of which was identified by Middaugh after he was taken into custody.
Police said elsewhere in the home, a shotgun was found with six live rounds, including one in the chamber of the gun. Police said they seized both weapons.
Middaugh is charged with one count each of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, making terroristic threats and simple assault. He is currently incarcerated at the Mifflin County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday in Mifflin County Central Court before Magisterial District Judge Kent A. Smith.
