MIFFLINTOWN -- Republican state Rep. Perry Stambaugh prevailed over fellow incumbent state Rep. John Hershey in the race for the Republican nomination for a seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
The two incumbents were forced to face off due to legislative redistricting that took effect this cycle.
In the new 86th District, which includes Perry County and most of Juniata County, Stambaugh received a total of 7,059 votes while Hershey earned 5,714, according to unofficial election results.
The vote largely split down county lines, as Hershey handily won the less-populated Juniata County by a margin of 3,044-597, while Stambaugh defended his home turf of Perry County with a 6,462-2,670 advantage over Hershey.
Stambaugh will now run unopposed in the fall general election, as the Democrats did not have any names listed on their primary ballot.
