Police: Man arrested after accidental shooting

LEWISTOWN — One man has been arrested after police said he accidentally shot another male Sunday evening in Derry Township.

Mifflin County Regional Police Department said 21-year-old Harrison Harlacker told police he was attempting to remove a 9mm handgun from his coat pocket to his pants pocket when it accidentally discharged and struck a 20-year-old male in the abdomen as the two were outside a Partcheytown Road residence at around 10:39 p.m.

Police said when they arrived on scene, they found Harlacker applying pressure to the 20-year-old’s wound as the 20-year-old was lying on the ground.

The 20-year-old was transported to Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital by Fame EMS, then flown to an undisclosed trauma center.

Police said the investigation continues, but that alcohol and marijuana intoxication were likely factors in the shooting.

Harlacker was arrested and has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault and one count of recklessly endangering another person. He is currently lodged at Mifflin County Correctional Facility, awaiting preliminary arraignment.

Starting at $2.99/week.
