Officials commend public safety communicators

MIFFLINTOWN--Commissioners acknowledge public safety communicators serve as the first and most critical contact that community members have with emergency services on Tuesday in Juniata County.

The commissioners believe that public safety telecommunicators are the single vital link from individuals to police officers and firefighters. These telecommunicators contributed substantially to the apprehension of criminals, suppression of fires and the receipt of treatment and life saving care to individuals who need emergency attention.

Juniata County (JC) Commissioners proclaim that each dispatcher in the county's 911 center have exhibited compassion, understanding and professionalism during the performance of their job in the past year.

JC Commissioners said, "In honor of the men and women whose diligence and professionalism keep our city and citizens safe, the week of April 10 through 16, 2022 is declared 'National Public Safety Telecommunications Week in Juniata County'."

In other business the board:

¯Approved an "Event Sponsor Agreement" between Juniata County and the South Central Mountain Regional Counter Terrorism Task Force.

¯Approved the "Purchase of Service Agreement" between Juniata County, on behalf of Children & Youth Services and Mark Remy, Esquire for Guardian Ad Litem services at an hourly rate of $75.

A Guardian ad Litem is an officer of the court who conducts a thorough investigation in order to make an objective recommendation to the court as to whether the petitioner should be appointed as the guardian or conservator of an alleged incapacitated person.

¯Approved and adopted the final draft of the Juniata County Continuity of Operations and Disaster Recovery Plan.

This plan is intended to help mitigate power, heating and telecommunication loss during the event of a disaster.

¯Approved checks No. 1288 through No. 1295 submitted by the planning department to pay for project costs in the combined amount of $229,540.

¯Appointed Ms. Tennille Shetron and Ms. Mary Grace Shearer to 3-year terms on the Juniata County Library Board of Trustees.
