Little Buffalo sets February schedule

The Little Buffalo State Park Complex will host a number of events in February.
Those at Little Buffalo will host virtual lunchtime lectures via Microsoft Teams at noon on Mondays and Wednesdays in February.
Hosts will send links once paticipants register; those who wish to participate must register to receive a link.
Individuals should register on the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) calendar of events and look for Little Buffalo events.
Virtual programs include:
Feb. 2: Groundhog Day special
Feb. 7: Maple tapping and ID
Feb. 9: Wildlife forensics
Feb. 14: History of maple sugaring
Feb. 16: Tapping a maple with Chapman State Park
Feb. 21: Presidential impacts on wildlife
Feb. 23: Intro to astronomy with Cherry Springs Park
Feb. 28: Winter animal tracks and signs
The in-person programs for this month include:
Feb. 5: 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. -- Maple ID and Tapping: Join us to go over the basic types of maple taps, how to appropriately tap a tree, and the best ways to collect sap. Meet at the park office classroom for a brief inside portion and then walk outside.
Feb. 9: 4 p.m. -- Wednesday Walk: Come with us to hike the Creek Trail as we look for signs of winter wildlife before dark. Weather dependent.
Feb. 13: 10 a.m. -- Maple ID and Tapping: Join us to go over the basic types of maple taps, how to appropriately tap a tree, and the best ways to collect sap. Meet at the park office classroom for a brief inside portion and then walk outside.
Feb. 13: 2 p.m. -- Beautiful Birds, Birding Workshop: All ages are welcome to come and learn about birding! Dress for the weather -- we will go for a short birding walk. Please register. Meet at park office classroom. Register on the DCNR Calendar of events or call (717) 567-9255.
Feb. 26: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. -- Maple Sap Evaporating: Stop by the park office to watch our maple sap boil! Come and watch as the sap slowly changes color and thickens into a sweet treat! Please note - this program will be SAP dependent. If sap is late this year, we may have to reschedule.
According to a press release from the Pennsylvania DCNR, the department asks those who wish to attend programs should pay attention to weather forecasts. If there is heavy snow or ice, programs may be cancelled.
