Lia Mort, of Richfield, proved she was tough as nails by winning the show of the same name. The show’s finale premiered Wednesday evening.
Richfield resident Lia Mort was revealed as the winner of the reality competition series “Tough as Nails.” The finale of the third season aired Wednesday night on CBS.
As the individual competition winner, Mort earned the grand prize of $200,000 and a 2022 Ford Super Duty pickup truck.
In the first challenge of the episode, Mort had to face “Dirty Hands” teammate Dequincey “Quincey” Walker in the first heat of a race using a skid steer loader to move enough gravel to be able to drive the machine over a concrete barrier and knock down a set of barrels.
Mort won her heat to advance to final challenge.
In the other heat, “Dirty Hands” teammate Jerome Kupuka’a defeated “Savage Crew” member Elizabeth Rillera, forcing Rillera and Walker to face off in an “overtime” elimination challenge, in which Walker eliminated Rillera.
The final challenge pitted the three former teammates against each other and contained elements of the season’s previous challenges.
The trio first had to smash a hole in a wall large enough to fit 30 wooden pallets through. The contestants had to stack the pallets and use them to climb on top of a metal shipping container to free a dummy who was held down by rope lines and weighed the same as the contestants.
Once the dummy “victim” was pulled to safety, the trio had to use an air wrench to remove four tires from pedestals and reattach them to another shipping container to use them as a makeshift staircase.
Then, the contestants had to use a handheld grinder to cut lengths of metal to form another makeshift staircase to climb yet another container.
On top of that container, a sledgehammer wrapped in chain had to be freed and then used to drive two long metal spikes into logs.
Next, the contestants had to pull two chains that were three times their body weight that then attached to the spikes and secured a rope ladder the contestants had to climb to grab a key fob to the grand prize truck.
Mort, as the first contestant to finish, won the grand prize. Walker finished second and Kupuka’a finished third.
“Tough as Nails” is a reality series hosted by Phil Keoghan that puts people from blue-collar occupations through a series of team and individual challenges.
Mort’s “Dirty Hands” team had previously won the team competition.
The show was filmed in Los Angeles over five weeks this past summer.
