BELLEVILLE -- Two people were taken via ambulance from the scene of a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in Union Township, according to Mifflin County Regional Police Department.

Police said the call for the crash was received at 12:56 p.m.

Police said James N. Erhart, of Reedsville, was traveling south on North Dry House Road in his 2002 Ford pickup truck when he came to the stop sign at the intersection with state Route 655. Police said Erhart pulled out in front of Sandra S. Stayrook, of Belleville, who was driving west on Route 655 in a 2021 Honda sedan.

The two vehicles collided with what police called a "severe" impact. Police said Erhart was ejected from his vehicle through the driver's side window and both he and Stayrook were transported from the scene via ambulance. Police did not know the condition of either driver.

Both vehicles sustained "significant" damage and were towed from the scene, police said.

Belleville Fire Co., Belleville Fire Police, Big Valley Ambulance and Fame EMS assisted MCRPD on scene.
