Local team to be honored

Babe Ruth parade is scheduled for Sunday

LEWISTOWN -- Fresh off finishing as the national runner-up in the Babe Ruth World Series, the Mifflin County 15-year-old All-Star baseball team will be honored with a parade Sunday in Lewistown.

Lewistown mayor Deborah Bargo said the parade will form at 6 p.m. on Manor Drive near Mifflin County Middle School.

The parade route will go from Manor Drive to Kish Street, then onto Dorcas Street, then onto Third Street before turning onto Grand Street. The final turn will take the parade onto Market Street until it reaches Monument Square.

Once the team has made it to the square, a ceremony will take place in front of the Mifflin County Historic Courthouse to honor the team.

"It really is great what they've done," Bargo said. "We hope everyone comes out to see them."

The Mifflin County team made it all the way to the championship game of the Babe Ruth World Series in Eagle Pass, Texas before falling to the squad from California.

It was the third time in the past six seasons a Mifflin County team made a Babe Ruth World Series final. In 2016, a team won the title in the 13-year-old age division in a tournament played in Iowa. In 2018, many of the same players as 15-year-olds finished as the runner-up in a tournament played in Washington state.
