Local communities to plan events for Memorial Day
Some local areas can be used to celebrate upcoming holiday
LEWISTOWN — Memorial Day is often thought of as the unofficial start of summer, but its true purpose is to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of our nation.
Last year, ceremonies marking the holiday were canceled as the country was dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. Some communities are planning events this year, and we’d like to make sure our readers are aware of where they can go to mark the holiday.
If your community, or an organization you are a member of is planning an event for Memorial Day weekend — Saturday, May 29, through Monday, May 31 — please send us the details so we can include it in our coverage.
You may email the information to Lifestyles Editor Jeff Fishbein at firstname.lastname@example.org, place it in our virtual newsroom at www.lewistownsentinel.com, telephone us with the information at (717) 248-6741 or drop it off in person at our office, 352 6th St. in Pleasant Acres.
We will publish a list of events in our May 29 edition, so we need them by the day before. Events prior to May 29 will be entered in our regular daily calendar.
