LEWISTOWN -- Several challengers fared well in the Republican primary for Lewistown Borough Council on Tuesday, according to unofficial election results.
The vote totals for a four-year term were as follows, according to unofficial results: Jim Steele 407, Bobby Hammond 279, William A. "Bill" Wilson 248, Richard P. Erhard 234, Larry "Heavy" Searer 224, Marc A. Terry 172, Dave Campbell 146.
Terry and Campbell are incumbents who have previously voted in favor of the borough exploring a lease-back agreement involving the assets of the Muncipal Authority of the Borough of Lewistown, a move that has drawn sharp public criticism.
Steele, Hammond and Erhard are newcomers seeking a seat on the council. Wilson and Searer are also incumbents but have opposed the actions pertaining to MABL.
Democrat Melissa A. Ramsey, who is also a challenger, will be on the ballot in November as a Democratic nominee, having earned 102 votes in an uncontested race for a 2-year term. In the GOP race for nominations for a two-year term, Searer earned 321 votes, Hammond received 314, Steele earned 215, incumbent Cassandra R. Goss received 155, Erhard earned 117 and Campbell received 113, according to unofficial results.
The general election is Nov. 2.
