Applicants with highest SAT scores to get funds

MIFFINTOWN -- Juniata Valley Bank is offering a scholarship for one Juniata and one East Juniata high school student.

Cindy Williams of the Juniata Valley Bank outlined the criteria of the Richard J. and Lela A. Nestler College Scholarship during the weekly Juniata County Commissioners meeting held Tuesday.

She said the applicant with the highest SAT score will receive the scholarship, which will pay for the student's first semester of college.

Applications are available at Juniata Valley Bank and guidance offices at Juniata and East Juniata high schools and on the county's website. Students must apply by May 1.

Williams said nearly $66,000 in college scholarship has been paid by Juniata Valley Bank.

The board also heard a presentation from Paul Greggo of Juniata Valley Bank regarding the county's retirement fund investments.

The board also took the following action:

¯ Approved the use of the county records improvement fund to purchase a time stamp machine at a total cost of $1,062.12 for the protonotary/clerk of courts office as requested by Lori Ferry, Prothonotary;

¯ Approved the tax exonerations for Greenwood Township.
