BELLEVILLE -- Lauren Mowry has announced her candidacy for Mifflin County Treasurer.

Mowry is a Mifflin County native and Lewistown Area High School alumna. She earned a B.S in accounting at Wilkes University and a masters' degree in accounting at Juniata College. Mowry interned, then hired and was employed for five years at J.H. Williams and Co.

Mowry's local experience includes employment as finance director and payroll manager for Mifflin County at the courthouse for a total almost five years. Mowry said these positions provided her with in-depth knowledge and experience with all county accounts; working knowledge of the practices and procedures; extensive experience with the daily operations; and adherence to state regulations in the county code.

Mowry said she will implement ideas to improve the function and ease of use of the county treasurer's office by patrons. Forms and publications, like applications for small games of chance and licenses for dog owners, hunters and fishermen, will be made available on the internet. Payments online will also be available.

Mowry said she desires to train staff with advance computer knowledge to give them the ability to work more independently of the treasurer to save time for patrons.

The primary election is May 18.
