Local Easter egg hunt kicks off March 19

LEWISTOWN -- The Downtown Discovery Easter Egg Hunt contest kicks off on Friday, March 19.
Kids ages 3 through 11 are challenged to find up to 32 brightly colored cardboard eggs, including three new eggs created by local artists Brooke Walters, Kathryn Newcamp and Galena Yoder.
For two weeks, these giant eggs will be "hidden" in storefronts and upper floor windows in businesses within the Downtown Lewistown area.
"We are excited to be celebrating the twentieth year of bringing the Downtown Discovery Contest to Lewistown," event organizer Colby Guyer said. "It was originally conceived to help people discover the many businesses on Market Street and a bit beyond. As with all events, participation has ebbed and flowed over the years but it's really nice to see our new businesses jump at the chance to help make it the fun and free event it always has been."
Kelly Rivera, owner of The Crooked Shelf Bookshop on North Main Street, says, "I like to help sponsor the egg hunt because it's a free activity that brings families outside and walking around our beautiful downtown. And the wonderful eggs are a great way to showcase our local art talent."
Due to COVID, distribution of physical forms will be a bit different this year with a pickup and drop off spot located outside at the Historic Courthouse as well as online. Contestants need to match the number displayed on each egg with the name of the business in which it is located. Correctly answered entry forms will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win prizes donated by participating businesses.
Special for this year only, a 20th Anniversary Egg sponsored by the Juniata River Valley Visitors Bureau will appear on the entry form. The egg will be hidden in a secret location but still visible from downtown sidewalks. Instead of recording the number on the egg, participants will have to write in what color the egg is.
A random drawing of all correct answers to only that question will determine the winner of a special 20th anniversary prize to be provided by the visitors' bureau.
Entry forms and drop offs can be found at the Juniata River Valley Visitors Bureau or online at the Downtown Discovery Contest Facebook page.
