MIFFLINTOWN – Planning is currently taking place for a potential COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic in Juniata County according to the Emergency Services director Allen Weaver. During the regular meeting to the Juniata County commissioners Tuesday, Weaver said the county is in the early stages of planning for a community vaccination site so they are ready once more vaccinations become available. According to Weaver, the county is partnering with Family Practice Center, who will manage the vaccines and handle administering the shots.

Weaver said they are in the process of deciding on a location and looking for the volunteers to help with the clinic. A timeframe will be set once a location is selected, volunteers are in place, and vaccinations become available. Commissioner Alice Gray commented that there will be more information coming on a dedicated number for people wishing to volunteer and a phone system that is being set up to make appointments for vaccinations.

Also on the meeting conference call was Juniata County human resources director Allison Fisher to provide information on the new grant included in the latest stimulus package passed by the federal government. "The rental and utility assistance portion is being managed through the state department of human services and administered different ways at the county level." Fisher said. "For Juniata County, those loans will be administered through human services."
