MCHS, MCJHS to host virtual registration

MCSD Chief Academic Officer announces event to begin at 6 p.m. March 2

LEWISTOWN -- Mifflin County Junior and High Schools will host a virtual registration night beginning at 6 p.m. March 2.

Mifflin County School District's Chief Academic Officer Kevin O'Donnell explained to the district's board of directors during its meeting held via Zoom call on Thursday, that students in grades 8 to 11 will be able to access registration night online through the school district's web page, www.mcsdk12.org

O'Donnell announced that kindergarten registration was also underway. Parents with a child who will be 5 by Sept. 1 can register through the district's website.

Due to poor sound quality, parts of the video's audio were choppy and difficult to hear

The board held an executive session after the meeting to discuss student matters.

The board also took the following action:

-Approved an offer on a Repository for Unsold Properties in the amount of $100;

-Approved an offer on a Repository for Unsold Properties in the amount of $200;

-Approved an offer on a Repository for Unsold Properties in the amount of $1,500;

-Exonerated Rebecca Ganoe, Mifflin County Tax Claim Bureau Director from collecting delinquent taxes on a parcel;

-Approved a list of budget transfers for 2020-21;

-Approved permission to bid for athletic supplies for the 2021-22 school year;

-Approved Jessica Rearick as a driver for Fisher Brothers Inc.;

-Approved the following teachers for tenure: Jennifer Momenzadeh, Makayla Green, Bonnie Grove, Billie Jo Heverly, Zanna Matthews, Catrina Breneman, Amanda Kristula, Lydia Pauchnik, Ermalinda Stephens, Kylie Muir, Rebecca Sheetz, Christina Willard, Kali Turner;

-Approved the resignation of Dianne Shearer as emotional support teacher at Mifflin County High School due to retirement, effective June 5;

-Approved the resignation of Thomas Shearer, technology education teacher at MCHS due to retirement at the end of the 2020-21 school year. Shearer will remain on the paint crew until Aug. 15, 2021;

-Approved the resignation of Kathleen Yarger, math teacher at MCHS due to retirement at the end of the 2020-21 school year;

-Approved Jennifer McCarter, guidance secretary at MCHS, effective Feb. 8;

-Approved Larry Eddinger Sr., part-time custodian at East Derry Elementary School, effective pending pre-employment paperwork and clearances

-Approved Elisha Hood, substitute custodian for MCSD, effective pending pre-employment paperwork and clearances;

-Approved Shannon Miller, substitute custodian for the MCSD, effective pending pre-employment paperwork and clearances;

-Approved Krystena Mayo, head JH volleyball coach for the 2020-21 season;

-Approved the resignation of Jessica Henry, assistant softball coach for the 2020-21 season. She would like to remain a volunteer softball coach.

-Approved Catrina Breneman, volunteer cross country coach for the 2020-21 school year;

-Approved Danielle Atkinson, volunteer LAX coach for the 2020-21 season;

-Approved Neil Breneman, head girls cross country coach for the 2021-22 season pending pre-employment paperwork and clearances;

-Approved of the following lacrosse coaches for the 2020-21 season: Theresa Lamont, F. Todd Johnson, Hillary Worley;

-Approved the following coaches for the 2020-21 season: Demma Franklin, pain JH volleyball coach; Jenna Slepicka, volunteer JH volleyball coach; Joelle Gill, volunteer JH volleyball coach;

-Approved Natasha Moist, substitute cafeteria worker, effective pending completion of pre-employment paperwork and clearances;

-Approved Rose Diven, substitute cafeteria worker, effective pending completion of pre-employment paperwork and clearances;

-Approved Rebecca Nulton, 3-hour part-time cafe - cashier - at IVE/IS, effective pending completion of pre-employment paperwork and clearances;

-Approved the transfer of Danielle Fryer from 3-hour part-time cafe - server/dishwasher at MCHS to 3-hour part-time cafe - cashier – lunch at MCHS, effective Feb. 15, 2021;

-Approved the resignation of Tamela Cunningham, 3-hour part-time Cafe -Cashier - Lunch High School at MCHS, due to other employment, effective February 26, 2021. She will be placed on the cafeteria substitute list;

-Transferred Janet Steffen, paraprofessional- primarily working with emotional support and learning support at MCHS to Paraprofessional- primarily working with life skills at MCMS due to dissolved position, effective Feb. 8, 2021;

-Recommend approved of transfer of Sunnie L. Earnest, paraprofessional-primarily working with life skills at MCMS to Paraprofessional primarily working with emotional support at MCMS due to being bumped, effective February 8, 2021.

-Approved following teachers being appointed as mentors for the 2020-21 school year. Compensation shall be according to the legally binding collective bargaining agreement. The following will be paid a $175 stipend and will be paid in May: Christian Knouse, mentor for Sidney Barlett, Gary Ishler, mentor for Timothy O'Donnell;

-Approved Rose Dive, 3-hour part-time cafe-server-dishwasher at MCHS, effective Feb. 26;

-Approved Rebecca Nulton as 4.5 hour PT paraprofessional at IVEC, effective pending pre-employment paperwork and clearances;

-Approved Vickie Kauffman, 3-hour part-time cafe-cashier/dishroom at MCMS due to other employment, effective Feb. 26. She will be placed on the cafeteria substitute list;

-Approved Donna WErge, driver at Krise Transportation for the 2020-21 school year;

-Approved Hannah Bubb, event staff for the 2020-21 school year;

-Approved Zachary Smith, volunteer head boys club lacrosse coach for the 2020-21 season;

-Approved Lauren Kuykendall, volunteer track and field coach for the 2020-21 season;

-Approved David Ries, volunteer girls LAX coach for the 2020-21 season;

-Approved the following coaches for the 2020-21 season, pending preemployment paperwork and clearances: Varsity Softball Paid Assistant, Raymond Hoppel Jr.; ï JV Softball Paid Assistant, Paige Johnson; Volunteer Softball, Terry Henry; Volunteer Softball; Selena Breneman;

-Approved the following technology Interns for the 2021 summer, pending preemployment paperwork and clearances: Bennett Andrews, Tristen Parker, Sophie Piper, Mason Schomaker;

-Approved the resignation of Nancy Walker, 4th grade teacher at LIS due to retirement at the end of the 2020-21 school year;

-Approved the resignation of Barbara Watkins, ESL/Spanish teacher at MCJHS due to retirement effective at the end of the 2020-21 school year, June 30, 2021;

-Approved the resignation of Christine Wilhelm, math teacher at MCMS due to retirement at the end of the 2020-21 school year;

-Approved the resignation of Michele Aumiller, speech/language therapist at LES due to retirement, effective at the end of the 2020-21 school year

-Approved the resignation of Janice Coldren, title 1 reading specialist at LES due to retirement, effective at the end of the 2020-21 school year;

-Approved the resignation of Brent Hartman Sr., technology education teacher at MCHS due to retirement, effective at the end of the 2020-21 school year;

-Approved the resignation of Linda Gardner, chemistry teacher at MCHS due to retirement, effective at the end of the 2020-21 school year;

-Approved the Early College Program articulation agreement between Mifflin County School District and Luzerne County Community College. The agreement will run from Jan. 1, 2021 to June 30, 2025.

-Approved the 2021 Addendum to Participation Waiver of Liability and Assumption of Risk for Parent/Guardian of Students Athletes. Board member Mary Lou Sigler dissented the vote;

-Approved the PIAA resolution supporting the statewide wearing of masks during post season interscholastic athletic competitions.
