APM truss manufacturing destroyed

Store, other buildings in complex remain open

The remnants of the truss manufacuring plant destroyed in Tuesday night’s fire at Allensville Planing Mill continue to give off smoke Wednesday morning in Allensville. Fire crews from five counties responded to the blaze and local crews were called back to the scene Wednesday during the day to keep the fire from flaring up once again.

ALLENSVILLE — A Tuesday night fire destroyed the truss manufacturing plant at Allensville Planing Mill in Allensville, but the store and other buildings within the complex remain operational.

Throughout the day Wednesday, fire crews were called back to the scene to keep the still-smoldering remains of the building from flaring up once more.

Attempts to contact the chief of Allensville Fire Co. were not immediately successful Wednesday, and, as a result, further details surrounding the fire were not available as of press time.

The fire at the mill, which has been in Allensville since 1959, was first reported at 8:58 p.m., according to Mifflin County Emergency Dispatch.

The fire caused state Route 655 through Allensville to be shut down for several hours Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning.

In addition to Allensville Fire Co., Mifflin County companies who responded include Belleville Fire Co., Burnham Fire Co., Milroy Fire Co., Reedsville Fire Co., Decatur Fire Co., Newton-Wayne Fire Co., Yeagertown Fire Co., McVeytown Fire Co., West Granville Fire Co., Granville Fire Co., Junction Fire Co., City Hook and Ladder and Brooklyn Hose Co. Big Valley EMS and Fame EMS also responded.

Juniata County companies who responded included Beale Township Fire Co., Mifflintown Hose Co., Fayette Fire Co. and Friendship Fire Co.

Snyder County companies who responded included McClure Fire Co., Bannerville Fire Co. and Rescue Hose Co.

Mount Union Fire Co., Stone Creek Valley Fire Co., Huntingdon Fire Co., Alexandria Fire Co., Three Springs Fire Co., Orbisonia and Rockhill Fire Co., and Smithfield Fire Co. responded from Huntingdon County. Alpha Fire Co., Boalsburg Fire Co. and Centre Hall Fire Co. responded from Centre County.

The Pennsylvania State Police, Penelec and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation were also on scene to assist.
