Teenager struck by vehicle

18-year-old listed in critical condition following accident

McALISTERVILLE — An 18-year-old man is in critical condition at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville after being struck by a vehicle.

Austin Parker, of McAlisterville, was riding a bicycle in the area of 32944 Route 35, Fayette Township, about 8:15 a.m. Friday when he was struck by a green 2013 Ford Fiesta, driven by a 21-year-old Mount Pleasant Mills woman.

Pennsylvania State Police Lewistown confirmed that an 18-year-old was hit, but has not released a name. The Sentinel has been able to confirm Parker’s identity through a witness at the scene and Geisinger Medical Center. The identity of the driver of the Ford Fiesta was not able to be confirmed.

The crash occurred as Parker was traveling east on the shoulder of state Route 35. According to police, Parker did not see the vehicle, which was traveling westbound and while looking for eastbound traffic, attempted to cross the eastbound travel lane and into the westbound lane.

According to police, Parker was thrown from the bicycle. He sustained serious injuries and was flown by medical helicopter for treatment.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured. Police said the teen was not wearing a helmet and do not suspect alcohol was involved.

Fayette Township, Port Royal and Delaware Township Emergency Medical Services, as well as Fayette Township Fire Company assisted at the scene.

Police are still investigating the incident.
