LEWISTOWN -- A McClure man was sentenced to 9 1/2 to 30 years in prison on aggravated assault charges that stem from an August 2016 incident that caused serious injuries to another person.

Michael C. Romig, 37, was

sentenced by President Judge David W. Barron for allegedly kicking and punching James B. Moore, 54, over the course of several hours.

"This is probably one of the most violent assaults I've seen and the victim has severe injuries as a result of what the defendant did," said Mifflin County District Attorney Chris Torquato, who said Moore is now paralyzed as a result of Romig's actions. "Short of homicide, this its almost the worst thing you could do to another person."

According to court documents, Romig and Moore had been drinking with several other people throughout the evening of Aug. 3, 2016, at Romig's residence on Whiskey Road in Decatur Township.

Documents indicate that Romig assaulted Moore over the course of several hours an repeatedly kicked, punched and stomped on his head, resulting in Moore being flown to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville for treatment. Documents indicate that Romig also held a knife to Moore's throat at one point and threatened to kill him.
