Everyday Heroes

Matt Evans in April 2023, leading training on fire dynamics for local volunteer firefighters in Mifflintown. (Submitted photo)

Matt Evans is my son and my hero because he has been a volunteer firefighter for the past 14 years and continues to be at the Mifflintown Hose Company. His dad, who is a volunteer firefighter at the same company, would take him to the station when he was a young boy. This is where Matt grew to love serving the community. He joined the fire company as a junior firefighter when he turned 14 years old. Matt has served in various positions and is currently the Deputy Chief of Mifflintown Hose Company. His service continued when he became an EMT and was hired by Fame Ambulance. Then, he went to school and became a paramedic for Fame. Matt has had many encouraging mentors that helped guide him in his career choices. One saw that he had the gift of teaching others and he started teaching firefighter essential classes part-time at HACC.
