Everyday Heroes

Pat Evans, Mifflintown Hose Company volunteer firefighter, visited Station 10, Ground Zero in New York City, in August 2017. Pat went there to honor the memories of his fellow firefighters' who perished on Sept. 11, 2001. (Submitted photo)

Pat Evans is my husband and my hero because he has been a volunteer firefighter for 40 years and continues to be at the Mifflintown Hose Company. He would take his children to the fire station when they were young and they saw how their dad served the community. This led our daughter for a period of time to become a volunteer firefighter, and now she works at the hospital. Our son made the career choice of serving his community, too, as a volunteer firefighter and works at Fame as a paramedic. I am proud of my husband for being a wonderful role model for our children. He dedicates his time serving in different positions at the firehouse and doing various repair projects making sure the fire station remains structurally sound. Pat volunteers for the fundraisers that help fund the equipment and supplies needed for all the company’s firefighters. It takes a special person who is willing to drop everything and run when the whistle blows and you don’t know what situation you are going into.
