AGIA perpetuates over eight decades of families providing insurance in our Central PA communities and beyond. In 1982, Philip E. Gingerich Jr. acquired his first independent insurance agency in Lewistown, PA – H.C. Kerstetter Company from Donald C. Kerstetter, as well as acquired and merged Sanders This agency also had acquired and merged with Sanders Insurance Agency (Burnham, PA), William D. Dodd Insurance & Real Estate (Lewistown, PA), and Dunn’s Insurance Agency (Mifflintown, PA) with HCK. By 1984, Gingerich took over the Metz Agency, Inc. from Harry M. Metz in Belleville, PA, and in 1990, acquired the Wharton Insurance Agency from Thomas R. James in Mt. Union, PA. By 2007, the Jack H. Port Agencies in Mt. Union and Huntingdon, PA became new members of the growing company, and in 2017, the Carriage House Insurance Agency (Huntingdon, PA) was merged into the Huntingdon, PA location. Prior, in 1995, Gingerich partnered with William M. Jones to form Central Insurers Group, Inc. which included a total of six locations, serving in the Central PA region.

In September of 2023, Heidi Altiery, the daughter of Philip E. Gingerich Jr., and her husband Keith Altiery, de-merged

from Central Insurers Group, Inc., and rebranded as the Altiery Gingerich Insurance Agency, LLC, or AGIA. Keith and Heidi bring over 20 years of insurance experience to the operation of AGIA. Four of the six locations remain with the family under the new name in Lewistown, Belleville, Mt. Union and Huntingdon, PA. The Altiery’s felt as though a name change was important to unify all of the previous agencies her father had owned and operated for over four decades. As a family run insurance agency, AGIA plans to continue serving families and businesses from these four locations.

With a rich history, deeply rooted in this community, AGIA strives to continue to educate, consult with, and care about those they connect with to make sure their interactions are meaningful, helpful, and empowering.
