Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania

The annual Central Pennsylvania Arts Festival in State College took place this month, but did you know that a local art alliance formed from the energy and passion that came from the festival community? The Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania, which just celebrated their 55th year in May, was established with the goal of capturing the energy from the Arts Festival and providing a place for the arts year round in the region.
Although the Art Alliance is based in Centre County, as their name states, they serve the arts community throughout Central Pennsylvania, including artists in Mifflin and Juniata Counties. Their goal is to be a home for artists and art lovers throughout the region to enjoy and support the arts locally, exhibit their work and take classes or workshops.
Their Fall 2023 Workshop Series begins in September. Workshops are short, intensive, and fun classes of between usually between one to four days. They are a great way to try something new, get reacquainted, with or practice a medium with minimal commitment and cost. Unless noted, workshops are beginner friendly.

Would you like to take an art class? The Pike Street Gallery Space and Classroom offers seasonal classes that range from eight weeks of intensive focus on subjects like Drawing, Painting, Computer Illustration, Stained Glass, Wheel Thrown Pottery, Sculpture and more to shorter classes. The shorter sessions range from four to six weeks as well as weekend pop-ups and one-day workshops to learn a new skill or refine techniques.
Would you like to have studio time? The Art Alliance also offers open studio times for Figure Drawing, Painting, Clay, and Printmaking. Youth can build their love of the arts with Art Alliance summer art camps. Art camps run throughout the summer for kids ages 6-13. Weekend workshops and in-service day programs are offered for kids as well.
In addition to the educational programming listed above, the Art Alliance is a home for artists to exhibit their work in their gallery space as well as yearly exhibitions that focus on a specific topic such as Recycling, Figurative, and Abstraction. They collaborate with local businesses and non-profits to strengthen the art community. They have additional gallery space at Kish Bank: Expect More Store on Allen Street in State College, as well as the Downtown Improvement District office located on Foster Avenue. Whether you make art, teach it, appreciate it, and/or support it, you will fit right in at the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania.
This feature is paid for by a grant provided by the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau to encourage tourism in Centre County.
