What started as fulfilling a need for broadband internet in the Penns Valley area, Centre WISP has since grown to become the most experienced wireless internet service provider in the region. The team at Centre WISP have over a decade of combined experience which is important to owners David and Laura Gibbons. "Internet service is really important so we like to make sure our installations are done professionally and cleanly and in a way that makes sure residents are going to have service for years to come." David said. "We have a team that really knows what they are doing. We know how to quickly determine whether or not a customer is serviceable and how to fix any problems that come up. That really matters when it comes to reliability of service."
Headquartered in State College, the family-owned company is one of the larger regional internet service providers in central Pennsylvania. Operating in the region that they cover allows Centre WISP to offer a personal level of customer service you don't get from national service providers.
In 2015 the Gibbons set out to fulfill the needs of some regions of Centre County that had no access to broadband internet. After talking with businesses and residents in those areas they created the internet service provider Centre WISP with a focus on unserved and underserved areas of the region. Since then Centre WISP has been working with county governments, local communities, residents and businesses to locate areas that need additional and better internet access so they can deliver that access to customers.
Through various partnerships with the Mifflin, Juniata and Perry counties, Centre WISP has been able to greatly expand its network over the past year or so. As a result, Centre WISP now covers 90% of Mifflin County, nearly all of Juniata County, as well as portions of Huntingdon, Perry and Snyder counties. "So from Penns Valley in Centre County to Big Valley in Mifflin County all the way down to the south toward Blain we have a really significant coverage footprint and we can bring very fast and very reliable internet access to anyone with line of sight to the towers." David said.
Centre WISP provides fixed wireless internet access with all the necessary equipment to provide the service being owned by the company. This allows Centre WISP to have tight control over the internet access delivery process allowing for high performance and consistently high internet speeds with no data caps. The internet speeds advertised to customers by Centre WISP are minimum speeds. This means customers will receive that speed or, in some cases, a faster speed. Most Centre WISP customers see speeds that are 2 to 3 times faster than the speed advertised. This is just one way Centre WISP values being honest to what they describe to their customers.
