NEWPORT -- The Perry County Council of the Arts offers its free Drop-in Art program for kids and families in several community locations this summer and fall.
The PCCA established Drop-in Art classes to offer fun and inspired creating sessions to local children and their families, which are free and open to the public.
The PCCA has been able to expand this program beyond its Landis House Art Studio in Newport to include local events and venues throughout Perry County, thanks to financial support from the McCormick Family Foundation, the Margetts Foundation, and Arts for All Partnership--a collaboration between the Cultural Enrichment Fund and The Foundation for Enhancing Communities.
Upcoming programs include:
≤ Today -- 1-4 p.m., Landis House, 67 N. Fourth St., Newport, and Roseglen United Methodist Church Social Hall, 733 New Bloomfield Road, Duncannon. Celebrate Fourth of July with these patriotic projects: painted American flag pillow, Fourth of July tin can vase, sparkler crown and fireworks painting
≤ Aug. 5 -- 1-4 p.m., Landis House, 67 N. Fourth St., Newport. Create a woodermelon, bubble painting and flubber.
≤ Aug. 15, 18, 19 -- 6-8 p.m., Perry County Fair, 248 Fairground Road, Newport. Visit us at the fair to make a dreamcatcher and corner critter bookmark.
≤ Sept. 2 -- 1-4 p.m., Newport Public Library, 316 N. Fourth St., Newport, and Roseglen United Methodist Church Social Hall, 733 New Bloomfield Road, Duncannon. Make an autumn wreath, animal finger puppet and a yarn bracelet.
≤ Oct. 7 -- 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Newport Canal Day in front of PCCA Gallery, One S. Second, Newport and 1-4 p.m. at Roseglen United Methodist Church Social Hall, 733 New Bloomfield Road, Duncannon. Craft a paper plate animal mask, soda bottle bird feeder and pom-pom pencil topper.
Landis House was bequeathed to PCCA by Mary M. Landis in 2007. In keeping with Mary's vision, PCCA's "Creative Commons" serves as a contemporary gallery providing exhibit opportunities to established and emerging artists. It also showcases novice and professional musicians; displays a historical permanent collection from the life and travels of the Landis Family; and promotes community building programs through meetings, lectures, readings and classes.
