FORT BLISS, Texas -- Lt. Col. Pamela Lawson, of Lewistown, has been deployed as commander of the 7218th Medical Support Unit for the purpose of supporting the Soldier Resilience and Readiness Center at Fort Bliss in Texas.
In her civilian occupation, Lawson is an academic success coach/faculty/instructor at Penn State College of Nursing. She was born in Dover, Delaware, in 1959, and now lives in Lewistown. She is married to Mark Lawson; they have two sons, Trevor and Tristan, and three grandchildren, Zander, Joselynn and Maddox.
Lawson commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1993 as a 66H army nurse, and was assigned to the 316th General Hospital.
In 1994, Lawson transferred to the 322nd General Hospital after completing Officer Basic Course. Lawson served as the 9/80th/5th HSB: 91 B and W medic instructor and officer in charge from 1997 to 2007.
In 2007, she was selected as the 100th program director -- Combat Medics 68W, and performed this role for four years until entering the Inactive Ready Reserve.
Her active duty service includes: Strategic Leadership Training and Administrator at the Army War College, Carlisle, 2005; 91 W OIC and Instructor, Camp Ripley, Montana, 2005; and Operational Support, Hohenfels, Germany, 2008.
Lawson returned to duty in 2013 as a Drilling Individual Mobilization Agumentee to support the Carlisle War Barracks mission for 12 months. After this mobilization, Lawson was assigned to the 2290th General Hospital as a TPU Reserve Soldier in 2015, then to the 7250th Medical Support Unit, where she remained until December, 2016, when she was offered the honor of and assumed command of the 7218th Medical Support Unit at Fort Bliss.
Lawson obtained a registered nurse diploma from Geisinger School of Nursing in Danville. She continued to advance her education by obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa, a diploma as a paralegal nurse consultant from Boca Raton, Florida, a Master of Science in Nursing education from Regis University, Denver, Colorado, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Advance Nursing Practice and Leadership from Regis University.
Her military education includes; AMEDD Officer Basic Course, Total Quality Leadership Certification, Trauma Nurse Course Certification, Officer Advanced Course, Battle Focus Training Certification -5K, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Basic Trauma Life Support, Prehospital Trauma Life Support, Head Nurse Leadership Course, Tactical Combat Trauma Course, Advanced Head Nurse Course, and the Intermediate Level Education Course.
She has received the following military awards: Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Bronze Hour Glass, and the Army Service Ribbon.
