LEWISTOWN -- With the summer vacation season right around the corner, the Juniata River Valley Visitors Bureau has produced another special interest tour to encourage visitors and locals alike to explore Mifflin and Juniata counties.
This year's tour is called Roadside Attractions and features the odd, unusual and quirky things that can be seen along the streets and roads in both counties.
"Everyone most likely knows of the Dairyland Cow on Route 655 in Big Valley," Jenny Barron Landis, the Visitors Bureau's executive director. "But have you seen the McVeytown knight or the Book Indian Mound in Juniata County?"
The Roadside Attractions tour highlights a total of 13 stops in Mifflin and Juniata counties and the Visitors Bureau is looking for more. People are invited to contact the bureau with ideas to add, not only to this list, but any of the 11 tours that are on the website www.juniatarivevalley.org. Files are updated regularly.
The Visitors Bureau started creating the special interest tours to provide organized information for visitors to use to navigate the Juniata Valley's country roads, and to give locals new ideas to show to friends and family who come to visit. Starting with the Juniata County Covered Bridges, the list of tours has grown to include 11 topics. like road trips, wineries, murals, greenhouses and more.

Paper copies of all of the maps, as well as brochures from the historical societies in Mifflin and Juniata counties, can be found at the JRV Visitors Bureau, located in the Historic Courthouse in downtown Lewistown.
