Volunteers needed locally

≤ Like driving? Home delivered meal drivers are needed to deliver a hot noon meal to the elderly in the area. Volunteers use their own car, and will receive mileage reimbursement.

≤ Like helping people face-to-face? Volunteers are needed to help with PACE and tax and rent rebate counseling and filling out applications. Training is provided.

≤ Like to visit with folks? Become a volunteer ombudsman to advocate for folks who reside in nursing homes or personal care homes. Ombudsman volunteers provide information about residents' rights and assists residents in exercising those rights.

≤ APPRISE Program health insurance counselors. Trained counselors provide assistance to help folks understand Medicare and other health insurance benefits. Volunteers assist people in making sound decisions about what insurance is best for them.

≤ Adult day care and senior community centers. Volunteers are always needed to lend a hand with serving lunches, helping in the kitchen and with crafts and activities.

≤ Enjoy exercise? Volunteer with the PEPPI exercise program. Volunteers are needed to lead the weight resistance/walking program in the two county area.

≤ Other opportunities: Care managers occasionally identify a need for a volunteer for the Friendly Visitors or Telephone Reassurance Program to make contact with socially isolated shut-ins. Also, Call-A-Ride Service sometimes needs escorts for riders needing assistance, and volunteers to drive individuals to out-of-town medical appointments.
