Fall is finally being seen and felt throughout the Juniata Valley and the mountains in Pennsylvania. I was fortunate enough last weekend to take the Amtrak train from Lewistown to Pittsburgh and then back again for a family event. While it was longer and I had less freedom to travel around the city, it was an experience I will never forget.
The ride was absolutely beautiful.
I have always loved this time of year when the leaves are changing. However, I feared that with the dry summer the colors would not be as vibrant as other years. As the weekend got closer I could see the leaves starting to change in the Juniata Valley and I began to think maybe, just maybe, there would be beautiful leaves to look at on my nearly five-hour ride.
I was not disappointed.
There were so many areas where the trees were just so vibrant. The sun was at the right angle in some parts of the mountains that the colors just seemed to be even brighter than they should have been. It was the calm before the storm in some ways. I was only able to get a small assortment of pictures because I was heading straight into the rain and wind that plagued the Juniata Valley after I left.
I do hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them and I hope you all take the time to drive, hike or just sit out on a back porch to experience the beautiful colors.
