LEWISTOWN – The Stone Arch Players held a children’s theatre camp from June 6 to 10, culminating in a performance held at the Theater-in-the-Park, Kish Park, home of the Stone Arch Players.
The demand for the camp continues to increase, and organizers hope to expand even more in the future. The camp session took place from9 a.m. to noon for children age 12 and under. A production for teens will take place later this summer.
On June 10, the children performed, “Scare Em’ All 101,” a short children’s play created by Dane Ufema, and written and directed by Julie Ufema, co-directed by Phyllis Johnson, on stage at the Stone Arch theatre.
The five-day camp consisted of instructional classes including topics such as acting, staging, costuming, scenery design and even the importance of social media and marketing in theatre. The children also helped decorate the set and their costumes. Campers practiced the play for the remainder of the day.
Local teens were selected after auditions for two performances of “Audition,” a short play written by Don Zolidis, and directed by Phyllis Johnson. The performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. July 30 and 2 p.m. July 31.
Julie Ufema, acting as camp director, was supported by many volunteers and Stone Arch Players, including Susan Turns, Kenzie McCarter, Brad Williams, Jan Headings, Brenda Heath, Brenda and William Peightel, Anna Mackneer, Macie Mackneer, Edward Thome, Jonathan Yourchak, Hope Showers, Bryan Queitzsch, Maddie McCarter, Emile Boulanger, Angie Fetters, and Lisa Hopple.
