MIFFLINTOWN – The Lost Creek Swine Club met April 21at Hoober Inc., in Mifflintown.
Anna Hershey led the club in the 4-H Pledge.
Teresa Ellinger from the 4-H extension office gave us our annual Quality Assurance Training. We took a test before the training to test our knowledge, then took it again after the training to see what we learned.
She had us establish an efficient and effective Animal Health Plan for our pigs. We also learned about how to use antibiotics responsibly and withdrawal times on medicines.
Leader Peggy Weaver had us all introduce ourselves and welcomed eight new members.
Peggy led us in our elections for the 2016 season, they were as follows: President Anna Hershey, Vice President Sarah Hershey, Secretary Joceline Telfer, News Reporter Garret Berry.
Demo’s for the evening included Charlie and Joceline Telfer on housing for your pig, Ashley Swartz on symptoms to watch if your pig is feeling well or not feeling well, Summer Hancock on physical traits of popular breeds, Abigail and Maddie Warner on ear notching. All demo’s were very informative with posters.
Peggy reviewed new business.
Shirts will be ordered for the new members at a cost of $5, Peggy will need your sizes.
The 4-H Cost Recovery Insurance is $20 this year per member, this covers insurance at the fair and mandatory reporting training for leaders.
The next meeting will be the 3rd Thursday of May 19 at 7 p.m. at Hoober Inc.
