Hi, my name is Emily Graybill. I’m a Juniata County Dairy Miss. My family and I live on a dairy farm outside of McAlisterville. Ice cream is a favorite treat of many people. Did you know that its origins trace back to the second century B.C.? There is no specific date or person credited with inventing ice cream, however a recipe Marco Polo brought to Italy from the Far East was very similar to what we call sherbet today. It is believed that this recipe evolved into ice cream sometime in the 16th century.
Famous Americans like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson also enjoyed ice cream. Until the 1800s ice cream was not readily available to everyone. It was mostly enjoyed by the elite. Today any of us can go to the grocery store and pick up ice cream to enjoy with our family. Here’s a simple recipe to help you get your three servings of dairy products every day.
Pudding Pops
1 box of your favorite flavor of instant pudding
2 cups milk
Pour your milk in a bowl. Add pudding mix and stir thoroughly. Then add your pudding mix to popsicle molds and freeze overnight.
If you don’t have popsicle molds, you can use small paper or plastic cups. After pouring in the pudding mix, cover each cup with plastic wrap or even aluminum foil. Then poke a popsicle stick through the covering and allow it to freeze overnight.
