STATE COLLEGE -- Mount Nittany Health has opened a new dermatology practice on Sandy Drive, consolidating its dermatology services at a larger location and adding Mohs surgery to its services.
The 7,296-square-foot practice opened Aug. 31 and houses Mount Nittany Health's dermatology team of Drs. Matthew Hazey, Lorraine Rosamilia and M. Amanda Jacobs, along with physician assistants Dallis Dillon and Amanda Marin.
The health system said the larger facility is intended to increase appointment availability as demand for dermatology services has grown in the region.
"It's not uncommon to wait 14-16 months for a new patient appointment with dermatology," said Dr. Christopher Yingling, Mount Nittany Health medical director of surgical services. "Our new Sandy Drive location allows us to care for more patients while reducing wait times."
The practice also marks the first time Mount Nittany Health has offered Mohs surgery, a procedure used to treat certain types of skin cancer. The procedure involves removing cancerous tissue in stages while examining the tissue for remaining cancer cells, allowing physicians to preserve surrounding healthy tissue.
The new facility includes dedicated rooms for Mohs procedures and an on-site laboratory.
Mount Nittany Health said the expanded practice also provides additional appointment availability for routine and urgent dermatology care, with some appointments reserved for acute concerns.
Telemedicine is available for some follow-up appointments, medication management and other care that does not require an in-person visit.
Other services offered at the practice include medical dermatology for children and adults, medical Botox treatment for hyperhidrosis and coordinated care with allergy specialists for complex dermatologic conditions.
