REEDSVILLE - The King-Barr Funeral Home is expanding to Reedsville. The Mifflin County business will be opening a second location at 47 Carriage House in Reedsville in early July.

"Since purchasing the Barr Funeral Home in 2020, opening a second location and helping more families has always been a dream of mine," said Stephen D. King, supervisor.

Now, his dream is becoming a reality as the King Funeral Home and Crematory will serve as a branch location to King-Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown.

The branch location is conveniently located on Carriage House Lane between First National Bank and Celebration Villa in Reedsville, just off the Belleville/Reedsville exit. The building formerly housed the Kish Bank Operations Center.

The building is 6,000 square feet, and the renovated floor plan will feature an open concept with a spacious lobby equipped with a coffee lounge and fireplace, the largest chapel in Mifflin County with an oversized display screen for slideshows, and full casket and urn selection room. A spacious parking lot also has room for 46 vehicles.

Additionally, the King Funeral Home and Crematory will offer cremation directly through their care.

"I have always been passionate about funeral service, and years later the passion has not wavered," King said. "I consider myself very blessed to have my late father Douglas King and Roger Barr as mentors in my career, both men that I consider genuine ethical leaders within our community, who had great attention to detail and the old-fashioned work ethic."

It is very important to King to carry on the legacy that Mr. Barr created and uphold the values as a funeral director that his father instilled in him.

King stated "We always say, 'A funeral home you can trust,' and I want to represent that trust, to be trusted that we will honor those that have passed, comfort their survivors and always do so with great attention to detail and 100 percent transparency.

King said the new location and its staff look forward to expanding into a great community, such as Reedsville, and serving residents during their greatest time of need to the best of their ability.

Grieving doesn't always end with the funeral. King said new services include GriefShare, a Christ-centered grief recovery support group with Pastor Chris Lutz that meets for 13 weeks at two different times during the year. There is also a special program, "Surviving the Holidays," that starts as the holidays approach for those who would benefit.
