New restaurant opens on corner of East Market St
LEWISTOWN–There is a new place for locals to grab a bite to eat on Monument Square. Owner Lorrie Sirgey opened the doors of The Corner Lunchbox on October 5th on the corner of East Market Street and South Main in downtown Lewistown. “We decided to do this adventure. Something new for the area. Something different.” manager Sheila Saurbeck said.
Sirgey and Saurbeck along with three staff members serve up fresh homemade food six days a week at the Corner Lunchbox. The menu includes hoagies, sandwiches, soups, sides, desserts and the restaurant’s signature item the BBQ / Sloppy Joe sandwich made with Sauerbeck’s own homemade recipe.
The restaurant offers homemade soups each day of the week with Monday being chili, Tuesday ham pot pie and mac & cheese, Wednesday ham & bean and chicken noodle, Thursday chicken pot pie and ham green bean & potato, and Friday broccoli cheddar and ‘cooks choice’. “Friday’s ‘cooks choice’ will be a surprise. It’ll be a surprise but it will be a soup of some sort.” Saurbeck said. The restaurant also sells their soup by the quart for takeout.
The desserts are also made from scratch at the Corner Lunchbox and they offer different variety each day. “They’re different all the time.” Saurbeck said, “Today we have brownies, chocolate cake with peanut butter icing and yellow cake with chocolate icing. You never know what we’ll have. People will have to come in and find out what it is.”
The crew at The Corner Lunchbox know a lot of their customers by their first name. “So far it’s been a lot of fun. We get to see a lot of people.” Saurbeck said “We’ve been getting wonderful compliments from the public.” According to Saurbeck a lot of people have been asking if the restaurant will offer breakfast at some point in the future. An idea the Corner Lunchbox is considering but waiting to make a decision on. “We gotta get our feet wet with this first.” Saurbeck said, “So that might be a thing when summer comes. We just don’t know yet.”
The Corner Lunchbox strives to serve as many local and state products as they can. So the crew decided to offer both Lewistown’s own Hartley’s Potato Chips and Middleswarth Potato Chips out of Middleburg. The restaurant also carries Uglies potato chips made out of Womelsdorf, Pa.
For the holidays the restaurant is considering offering cookie and sandwich platters for customers to serve at family gatherings and holiday parties.
The Corner Lunchbox, located at 2 East Market Street, Lewistown, is open Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for dine-in or takeout.
